I was letting my gaze drift through the bus window, watching the small droplets of
water clinging to the outer glass. They were the remnants of the rain that had just
stopped, slowly trickling down on a typical weekday morning in the heart of the
metropolis.

The bus moved sluggishly through the usual traffic congestion. I observed the people
walking hurriedly along the roadside, their heads bowed. I saw some standing and
sitting in the bus next to ours, and others in their private cars, stuck in long lines. My
eyes continued their aimless survey, eventually returning to the interior of our bus, to
the people sitting in the same row. As my gaze wandered without intention, it stopped
on a man sitting in the opposite row. The moment my eyes focused on him, I heard his
voice, even though he hadn’t spoken a word to anyone.

“What lie should I tell her about not coming home last night? …That the boss had
urgent work? Hmm… or should I say some kind of emergency happened…?”
